After losing to Khabib back in October, we can’t help but ask ourselves “What’s next for Conor McGregor? “
There is more than ongoing speculation about what might occur next, especially after the recent non committal comments from his long-time coach, John Kavanaugh.
Earlier this week in an interview with the Independent’s Paul Kimmage he expressed his desire to only train McGregor under the right situation:
“Well, he would certainly have to convince me to go again. … Yeah, I love him. I love the whole journey we’ve had, but I’d need a good ‘why.’ It might be Diaz again because he promised that fight. It might be a rematch with Khabib. But if it was just: ‘Well, they want me to fight that guy’ I think I’d say, ‘I wish you the best.'”
What might that right scenario look like? We considered some options below:
Rematch with Nate Diaz
After two very heated matches, there are some fans out there that would love nothing more than to see the last fight go down. Would the third chapter to a potential trilogy be the best move for Conor?
Rematch with Khabib
After taking quite a few months off from the octagon, Conor went for it all by taking a fight with Khabib. He took the risk and came up short with a loss. Would a rematch be the best move? Is he ready to take on the what at times seems invincible Khabib?
Could a fight with Tony Ferguson be in store? Would that be good for his career and also the fans?
We’ve seen the career of great MMA fighters come to a halt, will this happen to Conor? While highly unlikely its not out of the question.
Maybe Conor won’t go down any of these paths and surprise us all. Whatever may be next, let’s hope its exciting.
